This blog was created for me to be able to discuss the real Laguna Beach. I saw the way that the outside world looked at Laguna was jaded. The way the majority of people think of the "Laguna Lifestyle" has been too heavily influenced by the faked reality that has made it's way onto the bube tube.

Unfortunately for this blog, I have proceeded to become so busy with life as a Realtor that I have been neglectful. I'm quite amazed that anyone even came to the site since it has been months since the last time I spent time here. It's ironic, really, since all you seem to see and hear in the news is how the sky is falling in the real estate world. In reality, the market is ripe for those who understand. Investors and first time buyers are scrambling to get their place in the real estate line before it sells out. The market has seen homes priced over a million dollars selling within a week with 10 or more offers!!! The news will talk about the low end or all the homes being lost, but they seem to forget that someone has to be buying! I also entered into a partnership with another Realtor in Laguna. That partnership has created a whole new world of possibility, but also new work and responsibilities...so more time working and less time for blogging.

So here I am again. Do I feel guilty for ignoring this site? I do feel a bit...but since deep down I think that this is just my way of letting my psyche express itself, it is only for me (my digital diary that everyone could read)...but no one other than me really reads this anyway! :-) So I am sitting at home thinking and thus I wandered to here. I've gone for a run this evening and the evening is beautiful, so I started ruminating.

I guess the next question for us, is where and what do we do from here? Do we let the "Depression/Recession" drag us down or do we focus on the positive that we can create from this? We have a chance to change everything...new technology, new values, new needs, new goals! Do we really need the fancy cars and big SUV's? Do we really need all the TV's in every room in the house? Do we really need to work so hard that we forget what's really important...living? Do we continue on this work until we die route or do we remember that friends and family are more important? Do we decide that every race, religion, country...basically every person...can exist in cooperation and peace? CAN WE JUST GO BACK TO BEING KIDS WHO JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN!?!

I used to work in auto sales...I liked helping people get the car of their dreams, but I also had to play a game since I was employed by someone who wants to make a much money as possible on that same person's dream! Now, being a Realtor allows me to assist people acquire the property of their dreams, but I am not in the position of having the owner looking over my shoulder! I know that I still work too hard. I don't get to spend the time with friends and family that I would if I was a multimillionaire, but I do love this work!

So I for one want the Depression/Recession to help us reevaluate our needs and wants and goals. No we don't need all the fancy cars and big SUV's and TV's! Let's get off the bed/couch/chair/whatever and start living again. Take a walk, watch a sunset, play a sport, ride a bike, go for a hike, visit a friend, anything as long as we get off our butts! Oh that would also mean turning off the computer!

I may not have been on here in a while, but I have been living. I plan on doing the same in the future, so I don't expect to have consistent postings. Why are we here & What do we do about it?

Hello again my friends. It has been quite a delay between my meandering thoughts being posted here. I have been spending the latter half of the year dealing with some clients and escrows. I just didn't find myself in the mindset of wandering through those scary parts of my mind when I had the free time to be able to write.

So, days turned into weeks, which then turned into months. With the holidays bringing some quiet time and some renewed connections to past friends, I have the time and the energy flowing that brought me to this post. For anyone who missed the wild wandering of my amusing (crazy?) posts, I apologize for this absence. Ok, I'm done with my disclosures and excuses.

Anywho, I've been thinking about the two questions in the title of this post...Why are we here & What do we do about it? My first instinctive response would be that I don't know, but that would defeat the purpose of looking into yourself for the answers. I will try to look in there for this.

My answer to "Why are we here?" is to enjoy! Enjoy this world, the other people we meet, the things that we do and well everything! Enjoy helping, our self and more importantly others! Enjoy the love around us and the love we can give to others! If I could enjoy every moment of every day, I think I would be a pretty successful soul. So let me recap my response to why we are here...enjoy everything we see, hear, taste, feel, do, experience and give!

Now, What do we do about it? Well, I think it is as simple as following the advice from my answer within the previous paragraph. I will be looking to enjoy every moment of my time here. I have not only wandered though Laguna, but also though life. The one thing, that I have learned and truly believe is the golden rule of life, is that if every single person you meet is happier after you met them, then the world is enlightened and improved along with them! I love the feeling when I help someone...not the phony help where you are forced to help someone, but when you are helping someone you care for. The warm, happy feelings you get from helping someone you care about is the payment for your efforts. I don't believe Sacrifice (Definition for sacrifice: giving something you need for NOTHING in return) is the solution. Helping someone or giving something to someone, who can use that something, for your emotional or spiritual enjoyment is NOT a sacrifice. You were given something of value in return and the value could be even greater!

So, can we all look at life with this viewpoint? My answer is: YES! It isn't easy and I know that I'm not 100% there yet, but I am looking forward to trying. If we can all try every day and we then see the wonder and enjoyment of the world around us increase, then we can continue to move closer to that perfect world.

Writer's block in Laguna

Hello and welcome everyone to the writer's block posting. I have completely lost the direction and the creative juices that are needed to spout interesting knowledge...or at least useless or funny knowledge! I have been absent from posting since the infamous "mutiny post" in which the writers were fired and executed (or so we thought). I do have to say that the reasons for not writing have nothing to do with the current state of the financial world. It is truly just "writer's block", if there is such a thing. The weather in Laguna has been that of a split personality...one day it's a broiler and the next it is cool and looks like rain. Even though there has been no consistency, which would lead to posts about how strange the weather has been, I still have been unable to bring myself to this point.

Well, I couldn't think of anything to write about, so I wrote this instead. It's Friday night and many are out partying it up and have big plans for the weekend. (By the way, the block got so bad that I didn't even update the weekend events...sorry about that) If someone who has never read any of my posts is confused by this point...sorry...it's about time you joined in with the rest of us confused types!!!

Laguna Beach Weekend Events

Hello all. The management would like to apologize for the delayed publication of this weekly update. There was a miscommunication that occured last weekend that turned into a disagreement between the writers and the editors. The editors were upset that the writers put the incorrect information about the ending of our cherished summer events, such as the Pageant of the Masters, the Festival of Arts and the SawDust Festival. They all ended prior to this weekend and the writers didn't make it sound that way. In the end, all of the writers were fired and then executed for treason!!! (They tried to take out and kill the editors!) Well, now with the new staff in place, we will continue.

Friday:

September Sunset Serenades-Matt Otto Trio, a Jazz group will perform at 6pm. The series will continue throughout the month at the Picnic Beach area of Heisler Park.

Farmer's Market-This market of fresh food continues as usual at 8am in the parking lot next to City Hall on Forest Avenue.
Rollinger Campaign Fundraiser-Cindalee and John Hall will host a fundraiser at their home for former City Clerk Verna Rollinger's campaign for Laguna Beach City Council. A donation of $75 and reservations are requested, but if someone shows up with a check, they will be let in! For information or reservations, call (949) 494-9878.
Adopt Your Street/Beach Pick-up-This is the 1st Saturday of the month ritual held by Zero Trash Laguna from 8am to whenever at various streets and beaches in Laguna. After the parties that most likely brought people from out of the area into Laguna, we need to put our hands together and pick up whatever we can!

Sunday:

Bearfoot (their spelling) Bluegrass & BBQ-Bearfoot Bluegrass performs from 4 to 6pm at the Aliso Creek Inn, 31106 Coast Hwy and the BBQ will be from 3 to 7pm. Happy Friday to all! We have had a wonderful summer...knock on wood...so far. It's hard to believe that Labor Day weekend is upon us already!!! The Art-A-Fair and the Marvelous Wonderettes both finish this weekend and the SawDust Festival, Pageant of the Masters and the Festival of Arts all follow closely behind. The Farmers Market is still continuing on Saturday's though. So let us make the most of this holiday weekend!

Friday:

Back to School Party-The Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce and Laguna Beach Resource Center, with No Square Theater, are sponsoring a Back to School party for children of low-income families in Laguna Beach at 5pm at 225 Forest Avenue (Formerly Crystal Image gallery. School supplies (spiral notebooks, pens and pencils, colored pencils, etc.), clothing, backpacks and other items are needed. Items may be dropped off beginning at 8am at the Chamber of Commerce, 357 Glenneyre St., or at 225 Forest Ave. For more information, call the Chamber at (949) 494-1018.

Saturday:

Art-A-Fair Closing Night Carnival-From 5 to 9pm, it's the final opportunity to bid on the silent auction items displayed all summer. There are also auction items including services at Ziba Day Spa, an BMW M6 child’s pedal car, and a necklace by designer Karen Larsen. Admittance to this evening’s festivities is open to all and ticket prices will be $3.50 all day. Swingsensations will be entertaining from 1 to 4pm and, strolling doo-wop darlings, Augie’s Side Effect from 6 to 9pm. Complimentary refreshments will be provided by the artists, and TivoliToo! will also be open for food, beverages and two-for-one margaritas from 5 to 6pm.

Labor Day Pancake Breakfast-The Laguna Beach Fire Department will once again be making pancakes! The event is sponsored by the Laguna Beach Exchange Club.

Laguna Beach Weekend Events

Hello from Hesperia...yes, Hesperia. I am out of the neighborhood due to a passing in my family (good old grandma is in a better place), so this is delayed. The Marvelous Wonderettes, the SawDust Festival, Art-A-Fair, Pageant of the Masters and Festival of Arts are still showing strong each day and the Farmer's Market is supplying us on Saturday as usual.

Cancer Benefit-Cause for the Cure benefit at Hennessey's Tavern, 213 Ocean Avenue begins at 8pm. A raffle to benefit the American Cancer Society. For more information, call (949) 494-2743.
Relay for Life-Will begin with an opening ceremony at 6 p.m. and continue for 24 hours continuously, to 6 p.m. Saturday at El Morro Elementary School. Registration: begins at 5 p.m. on Friday. Opening Ceremony: The festivities will begin at 6:00pm sharp. Survivor Lap: all cancer survivors are welcome to walk in the survivor lap (the first lap of Relay), which will begin immediately following the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. Luminaria Ceremony: the ceremony will take place at 9 p.m. on Friday night and will celebrate and honor the lives of past and present cancer patients. Luminaria are available for a purchase of $10 and may be purchased at the actual event. Kids Camp: the camp will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday night and will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. There will be food, crafts, a bounce house and more for kids to enjoy. Saturday BBQ: A BBQ lunch will take place Saturday afternoon from about 11 a.m. to 2p.m. People will be asked to make a $5 donation. Laguna Real Estate Market Update

Hello all and welcome to a philosophical journey through the real estate market...no not really. I just don't have any idea how to make an opening sentence "feel" right for this.

Anywho...the real estates market here in Laguna has seen some resent increased activity. Throughout this year we were averaging about 15 home sales closing per month, but June and July were 21 and 20, respectively. August has started quickly, closing over a half dozen in the first week. On top of that the number of homes going into escrow has also increase...so what is the cause. From heavily researching, following pricing trends, speaking with buyers & sellers and following the advertising, the main reasons that I have found are that sellers have adjusted their pricing structures to be in alignment with the market and that buyers are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I am constantly speaking with real estate investors, who are very actively searching for more places to plant their money. They don't ask me if the market has turned, they tell me they want to buy before the general populous joins the rush. I don't know about where the bottom of this market was/is/will be, but I know that people who purchased 8 or more years ago almost certainly have equity. It is the false equity that built up from 2003 to 2006/07 that is becoming just that...false. So we have traveled back in time to 2003/04 pricing, which is where we should have been in 2005. The real estates market has long revolved around a 10 year cycle of 7-8 year of growth and 2-3 years of lag and because of the government and lenders trying to make that 7 to 8 period go on forever, we have had to go through this last couple years of "fun".

Let's learn our lesson and RESEARCH before making any purchases. I have stated before that if you are trying to buy to flip homes, I wouldn't do it. There are some out there doing it and making money, but I believe that real HOMEOWNERS, the long term, live in the home individuals, are the real winners. They now have a chance to get into homes that were unavailable. Their incomes have increased since 2003 and now they can afford the home priced at 2003 levels! I love giving a new homeowner the keys to that home!!! I wish I could do it every day...I guess that makes me work hard and keep working hard.

Laguna Beach Weekend Events

The Olympics are under way and the opening cerimonies take place this evening, but that is on the opposite side of the planet and here in Laguna we have our own "Annual entertaining olympics of sorts". The SawDust Festival, the Festival of Arts, Art-A-Fair and The Pageant of The Masters are still running strong! The spectacle that is the Marvelous Wonderette's are still sing at full voice! And the Saturday Farmer's market is still feeding us some good stuff. So now we have the new additions to the mix.

"Spirit of the Master" parade-In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Pageant of the Masters, the Pageant will sponsor a parade similar to the “Spirit of the Masters” parade in 1933. The parade will start near the Laguna Art Museum, the Festival’s site location in 1935. The route will include stops at some of the Festival’s early locations before moving to its permanent home in 1941. The parade will end on the Festival of Arts grounds with a presentation on Center Green immediately following. Hazy Dayz Here in Laguna

For those of you who have had the pleasure of spending the last few days in Laguna and haven't ventured toward Laguna Hills via the canyon or anywhere else away from the coast, I needed to tell you that the sun has been making an appearance! The haze along the coast has been staying strong here in Laguna and it seemed to me that the sun would be gone everywhere...until I approached El Toro Road on Laguna Canyon! Then I suddenly realized that the sun was out and the sky was virtually cloudless. Imagine that! The mugginess that I felt in Laguna now became that of a sauna. The temperature in Laguna felt in the 70's this weekend, but outside, just a bit inland, it was 15-20 degrees warmer. So thank you haze! I personally like the 70's much more than the possibility of 90's!!!

The weekend is upon us once more and as normal the show go on! The SawDust Festival, Pageant of The Masters, Festival of the Arts and the Art-A-Fair are all continuing daily...the Farmer's market on Saturday are all going strong and as usual. As for the other events of the weekend, away we go!

"Life...Don't talk to me about Life!"

That quote is from Marvin "the manic depressed robot" from the British television show, "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Universe". It's not that I'm depressed...it's just seemed fitting for the "June Gloom" that has taken over July and what seems like all summer. Don't get me wrong, I personally think this summer here in Laguna has been wonderful. I just hear people talk about the "gloom".

Because of it, we have been nice and cool. Take over the weekend for instance. My parents live in Hesperia and the temperature was over 100 there! And we had the great days in the 70's!!! Anywho, I guess that the title should be "Gloom...Don't talk to me about Gloom!". And that is how my abnormally wired brain worked it's way to this. The world is created by our minds...if we perceived it differently, it would be different! So, I sentence you to be hung by your toenails until you cheer up. Let's create a world where the negative people, press, news and whatever else wants to be negative can't make us lose our positive attitude!!!

Laguna is a spiritually uplifting place and with the power of positive thinking we will change the world...at least I will change my world. I have been looking for a sign, something to guide me toward "The Path". I believe that I will see it and I hope that it shows me that I am on the right route to find it! So, call me a dreamer, a spiritualist or whatever you want to, but I am just out here in this little universe of mine trying to find happiness. I have a profession that allows me to help people find dream homes and hopefully reach their goals, but I still think of myself as a teenager looking for his endpoint. I still don't know what that is and maybe that's the point...to always be out here looking for the next bit of knowledge, to never be satisfied with what you have done.

What seems like long ago in a distant universe, I began writing in this space...pouring my heart out and putting random thoughts out into the "ether-net". I thought that I would be able to meet people and enlighten some as to what Laguna was all about. In addition to that, I have started looking deep inside, the way I haven't in years, and wondering WHY? The big why! As Douglas Adams wrote it in Hitchhiker's, "The ultimate question of life, the universe and everything!" So, Why?

I have been a believer for years that we are all together in this. If you harm or help or do anything to someone, you are doing it to yourself. I have tried to follow this creed, but it is a very hard one to follow in the real world, especially when you are the only one sharing this way. I know I won't stop, but I know that the fountain of energy can run low sometimes...I'm unfortunately not the Fountain of Youth...and I can use some outside support, energy, feedback, love, enlightenment...whatever your beliefs would call it.

But that is still not the answer to the question, it is only how you may or may not live life...as to the "Why?" I don't know! I just know that I will keep living, trying to support those around me with the maximum positive energy that I can muster and searching and searching. Until then, I will keep looking for the signs and "The Path".

Laguna Real Estate one of select few

According to statistics recently released, Laguna is one of only FOUR zip codes to show an increase in median home value from the same time last year. The four zip codes were 92651 (Laguna Beach, of course), 92662 (one of Newport Beach's, which was up a whopping 47%), 92657 (Newport Coast) and 92625 (Corona Del Mar). The average for the county was a 20% drop in median prices. As you can see it was localized in this area, but the down side was that the number of home sales dipped 32.5% for all of Orange County and 52% in Laguna! The nice homes are selling right now. Others are chasing the market.

We have larger than normal inventories, which create the choices for the buyers. If the buy can choose between two homes, one of which is updated and remodeled or one that is essentially original (outdated), but both are prices similar or close enough to compare, the buyers are moving on the former. We also have the "distress" properties that are starting to leak into Laguna's market. We had been relatively insulated, but they are starting to drive buyers, with pricing below market! If the market can move them quick enough to have the effect trickle up to the rest of the listed homes, we will have a much swifter recovery from the slow sales. If on the other hand we see the "distress" properties become too great a number, we could be seeing more price reductions. Then, Laguna won't be in the "select few" with median price increases from the year previous.

The moral of the story is that homes are selling (slowly) and the nice homes are selling for statistically more than before, so we can continue to look for the light at the end of the tunnel and surf the wave right up to the shore!

Laguna Beach Real Estate

I have been accused of being a bit over analytical. But when it comes to this market of real estate, I keep having people come up to me for my opinion on homes.

I know that many homeowners are gloom and doom. I am one of the people who purchased during the last few years, so I theoretically have lost money...on paper. Since I am not selling or planning to sell my home, I actually haven't lost anything. I know that values have returned from the ether. We need to stop thinking that the real estate world is coming to an end! We haven't returned to values from the 1970's or 80's, we've returned to where we should have stopped in 2003-2004.

Some individuals, realtor's included, began to believe that values would never stop going up, or even slow down the increase. Well that has caused a lot of heartache and in the worst case, loss of home! Average prices have dropped, median prices have dropped, amount of homes for sale have increase, but for those who purchased for the right reason and with the truthful information about themselves are still holding on to their homes. The best place to invest, especially right now, is still real estate...as long as you are looking for LONG TERM investing! Whether we look into the crystal ball and it tells us that the market will go up or down in the immediate future, it doesn't matter for the long term. If you can TRUTHFULLY afford a piece of real estate to invest in for the long term, real estate won't let you down. I read all the doom and gloom in the paper...just as I did in the 1990's...and I know that those who understood bought! Those who didn't waited until the press, news and media told them to buy and then were upset that they had to fight for the property...not only that...they had to pay more for the privilege to fight for the property. I'm not saying to buy or sell because the market is at the bottom...I'm not saying to buy because you can turn an immediate profit...I'm saying to buy (or sell to buy up) to enjoy LONG TERM wealth...to have something of your own for the long haul. I look at flipping very much like day-trading on the stock market...unless you have a large sum of expendable money, you may want to jump out your window right after you threw your computer out the window!!!

Laguna Beach has been slightly insulated by it's proximity to the water, but that didn't last forever and we must be looking toward the future, not the past. The real estate is worth what it is today, not what it was worth in 1970, 1980, 1990 or even last year! I have seen areas where up to 80% of all properties for sale are because of financial troubles, but we only had 22 out of over 360 as of last week. That will change. But if we use our intellect and planning we can reduce the chances in the future.

Laguna Beach 4th of July Weekend Events

Happy 4th of July! This last week seems to be a vacation week for many, which would include my blogging. My old college buddy, Wright R.S. Block, has been out for the last week visiting and because of that, I couldn't think of a thing original to say or write! Now as to the weekend ahead of us, it's going to be a bang, right. Adopt Your Street/Beach Pick-up-This is the 1st Saturday of the month ritual held by Zero Trash Laguna from 8am to whenever at various streets and beaches in Laguna. After the parties that most likely brought people from out of the area into Laguna, we need to put our hands together and pick up whatever we can!

Sunday:

The Festival of the Arts!-Another piece of the Laguna Summer jigsaw puzzle falls into place on this day. From 10am to 11:30pm at the Irvine Bowl, 650 Laguna Canyon Road. Approximately 150 painters, sculptors, ceramists, jewelers, photographers and other artist will display and sell original works in this juried show. $7 for a season pass, $4 for seniors and students. Laguna residents and military are free with proper ID, as are children under 12 years of age. In honor of the 75th anniversary of the show, there is a special 75 cent admission fee after 7:50pm. There will be free workshops, tours & demonstrations throughout the days and some lessons for fees if interested.

Laguna Beach Weekend Events

And so summer begins...I mean, events that going on during summer...The Summer Season! I do hope that the weather is perfect all summer long. Since we're here in this perfect little town, Laguna, why can't we have perfect weather to go along with it? So with the first weekend of the summer events, we will start to get quite busy out there. Let's make sure that calm heads prevail and we all have wonderful times. I am now stepping off the "soap box" and here is the events for the weekend:

Friday:

Art-A-Fair-Opening day for the Art-A-Fair is from 10am to 9pm and is located at 777 Laguna Canyon Road. Art-A-Fair is open 7 days a week and allows the opportunity to view and acquire art directly from the artist exhibitors. There are special demonstrations and lectures on how the artist's works are created, free workshops and supervised children's art activities. Restaurants serve lunch and dinner. Cost is $7 for adults (Military or groups of 20 or more are $3.50) Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. Weekly Hours: Sunday to Thursday: 10am to 9pm, Friday & Saturday 10am to 10pm.
SawDust Art Festival-The 42nd annual SawDust Art Festival located at 935 Laguna Canyon Road opens it's doors at 10am to 10pm for the new season. "Summer of Enchantment" will feature creations from 202 Laguna Beach artists and will offer themed music and entertainment, art classes, artist demonstrations and art tours...to name a few of the things offered! Food and beverages are available at the outdoor cafes. Cost is $7 for adults, Seniors $6 age 65 & up, Children $3 age 6 to 12 and free for children under 5 years of age. Summer season passes are $20 and the annual pass, which gives you unlimited admission into the summer and winter shows, is $25. There are free city trolleys from paid parking lots.

Farmer's Market-As usual in the parking lot next to City Hall on Forest Avenue at 7am. Come and eat fresh!
Amateur Radio Demo-The Laguna Beach Emergency Communications Team will be hosting their 10th annual Field Day event, which is a 24 hour event from 11am Saturday to 11am Sunday at the Fire Road, between Moulton Park Meadows Park and Top of the World, to demonstrate the capabilities of amateur radio. LBECT is a volunteer group within the Laguna Beach Police Department. All Laguna Beach residents and visitors are welcome and there is no charge. They will provide the means to send radiograms to family friends, upon request. There will be an information table as well as several radio stations and even a station for visitors to try to make a contact on amateur radio. Candle Making Class-Pure Light is demonstrating candle making from 11:30am to 3pm at 821 Laguna Canyon Road. Guests can create their own personal candle, with mementos within (bring something to remind you of Laguna, or a photo, they will laminate it) for $25. Sunday:

A Very Special Event for the Love of Mother Earth-This event from 10am to noon at 1041 Marine Drive is hosted by Summer Bacon. It is a donations only event and 100% of the proceeds will be donated and divided between two Laguna Beach non-profit organizations, The Pacific Marine Mammal Center and The Laguna Ocean Foundation. Please join, on a beautiful green lawn overlooking the ocean of Laguna Beach, for a morning of guided toning, prayer and meditation for a world in turmoil--for the healing of Mother Earth, and all of its inhabitants. There will be ample parking due to an agreement to use the parking lot down the road from the home. Bring a beach chair (no high backed chairs, please), or a blanket. Dress comfortably. Summer begins in Laguna

Thankfully the temperature is a little cooler this week than last week and now we see the beginnings of the Laguna Summer season...The SawDust Festival begins tomorrow (June 27th). As we all drive up and down Laguna Canyon we see the SawDust grounds, Art-A-Fair and The Festival of the Arts...to name a few landmarks...and soon we will spending even more time sitting in front of them in the traffic from them!!! The area, Laguna Beach, is beautiful and I know the summer programs, that are available, are part of the complete package that is, Laguna Beach. So we will have to deal with the traffic or avoid the area. We don't have any solutions from the powers that be at this time, but maybe with the increased pressure that we place on them each year, that will change.

The performances and displays always intrigue and amaze me so I will continue to support them and then drive directly in the opposite direction from them! If anyone has a solution, I and probably a whole lot of people would like to hear it.

Melting away in Laguna

OK, someone turned the heater on MAX and forgot to turn it off!!! These last few days have been extremely hard to believe. It has felt like a sauna in Laguna! For those of us who aren't meteorologists, what the heck is going on. I can handle warm weather, when you work your way up to it...not when you suddenly change from the 70's to the 100's, in what seems like, overnight.

Fine, I'm done complaining. I hope that everyone that was out in the sun used a lot of sunscreen and had a wonderful time this weekend. For me it was work days, but I had the pleasure of speaking with some old friends! I recently found an old friend from 10 years ago...I felt like saying the line from "Grosse Point Blank"..."10 YEARS MAN, WHERE YOU BEEN!" It makes me feel young again to speak with past friends. While I have remained down here Behind the Orange Curtain as they would say, they have moved to other parts of Southern California. I've said before that I love the way Laguna makes me feel, but I am still intrigued by how it is a complete opposite reaction by some. I guess they don't have the right mentality to have it get under their skin and really take hold.

So we will continue to wander through life and enjoy the beauty that Laguna throws at us each day...whether it be raining, sunny, hot, cold or something else...it is still beautiful and enriching...at least to me!

Random thoughts of Laguna keep me awake!

I normally am awake early to coordinate my schedule with my wife, who works 5am to 5pm shifts, but I am sitting here awake tonight with too much on my mind. I am writing in hopes that it will allow me to sleep soon.

So why are we here? That is a question I have asked before and will probably always be searching for an answer to! Are we here to help ourselves, others, the world (society, that is) or nature (the planet, solar system and everything)? Are we here to find the reason or is the reason only a motivational item? Do we only have the things around us to make us happy or is there something deep, emotional, spiritual or otherwise that we have to look forward to?

I have spent many a sleepless evening contemplating this. I have found that I enjoy making others happy, but other than emotional benefits, it wouldn't help me survive. (I haven't found anyone willing to pay normal people to make people happy) That means I have to find a way to earn money to pay for housing and food...that kinda sucks! Anywho, I did for a time find that helping people get the car of their dreams made me feel good and made me money. Unfortunately, we all know what a hassle buying and selling cars is! Thus I moved on.

As I said before, I originally started this blog to change preconceived views of Laguna, but I also have learned that it has changed me. I love the way I feel in Laguna...it uplifts me! I wander through the day thinking that I can help someone. I have always wanted to help those who want to help themselves but lacked the means. So now I sit at open houses or in my office, waiting for the chance to help someone realize their dreams. I'm still in sales (per se), but I feel like I can just be helpful rather that sell something. Now I still feel...and probably always will...that I am not in the right place yet, which is another reason why I'm writing this instead of asleep.

So, back to where I started on this post this evening! Am I where I need to be? Am I doing what I need to be doing? Or am I diverted off the path due to the fact that, without money we can not live? I am thinking that I won't figure this out...especially this evening! But at least by putting it down in words and broadcasting it for the world to see, I can sleep better knowing that someone may be able to not only hold me accountable for my goals...but maybe they might be able to assist along the path!!! I am still not sure if I will be able to sleep better after writing this or if it will just get me thinking even more.

Animals of Laguna Beach

I have spent some time and taken a couple of our visitors to do the same at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center. The center is a non-profit there only to help the animals. They are there to assist them when they beach themselves when they are ill. They spend the time nursing them and feeding them. The seals and sea lions are adorable and cute to see.

I am unfortunately saddened by the fact that every time we have gone there, we are the only ones there. You can feel the love from the people who are working so hard to help these animals work their way back to the wild and you just feel for the animals as they stare at you or bark out in possession of their territory. I love these cute little guys and gals and I hope they all get back to the wild.

Please, the next time you have some time to say hello to them, stop in and while you're there give some money to make sure we can have them well taken care of. These animals are out there in the waters playing and looking for food, while we are worried about all the strange intricacies of life. I still wonder who's better off! But when they need our help, the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, is there!!! The least we, as the general public, can do is let them know we care and know their work is appreciated.

Where's the LOVE, Laguna???

After reading about the young teacher from Laguna Niguel that was killed as a passenger in a car accident last Friday, which was possibly caused by driving under the influence, I began to think...once the pain went away...just kidding...I haven't put any soul searching Laguna posts in here in a while. I also started to notice that, judging by the police blotter, we seem to have quite a few drunk drivers out there on our hands.

I was young and stupid at one time...I still think of myself as young, but not AS stupid...so why would you risk yours and other's lives and the anguish that it would cause your loved ones if something happened. Now, as I said before, I am not completely innocent. Why, I was "stupid" and believed that I was a "better" driver while drunk because I follow the laws of the road more to the book when drunk...other than the fact that I was drunk. Looking back, I was not only stupid, but also insane!!! The whole point is your judgement is inhibited while under the influence.

So, long ago, I changed my ways and cleaned up my act. I did this by conscious decision and thought it would be easy for everyone else to do the same. Unfortunately, the "influencing chemicals" may not allow others to do so, or maybe they don't care, or maybe they aren't intelligent enough to do so. Whatever the reason, I believe that we all instinctively don't want to harm ourselves and other, but our actions can be the complete opposite.

I am one of the very, very few who can say they were hit by a drunk driver and wasn't seriously hurt (whiplash was the extent of the physical injuries), thank heavens! But as I sit hear thinking my "deep thoughts" about life today, I wonder...why?!? Why was I lucky and others have not been? Why do people still do so many things that harm themselves and those around them? I have been asked before what my legacy here would be. I still like the idea of making people happy...putting a smile on faces! If we all made it our passion in life to simply give your beautiful heartfelt energy...your "life-force"...with no thought of what we would get in return, true magic, healing and miracles would happen.

We are all living here in this universe of energy...together. Let's start treating everyone we meet, not as a stranger, but as a part of ourselves that we may not know or understand yet! This little town of Laguna is one of the places in the world where I have felt closest to this idea and I would love to "infect" the rest of the universe with a undiluted form of the infectious virus called LOVE!!!

I promise to try to find the undiluted and unmutated version of LOVE for as long as I exist...in this life or another. So for any of you out there interested in joining my search for the "Question to the ultimate answer of life, the universe and everything" (I already know the answer is 42 thanks to Douglas Adams, now I just need the question), the quest for the "holy grail", or whatever you would like to call it...the search for UNTAINTED LOVE, please join me!!! I have tried to follow paths and they have made me feel spectacular amounts of love, I am still waiting for someone to point me in the right direction to find that perfect level. Maybe we aren't supposed to, maybe that is the idea behind life...to always search and strive, and when we find it, everything will be over. I don't know, but I am so looking forward to the journey.

Laguna Beach through Power lines

Some of Laguna's best views have them destroyed by power lines. I deal with this issue a lot. I am currently looking out toward the ocean and in the process am looking through power lines!!!

Certain areas have taken the first step and they have been placed below ground. Unfortunately, most areas have not. The homeowners need to realize that the benefits, from a standpoint of property values will far out way the costs associated.

Why do they not do it then? I understand from some homeowners that they can't afford to add them to their budget, but maybe they haven't had it completely explained to them. Yes, there would be inconveniences and costs. Those could never out way, not only the property value increase, but additionally the intrinsic value of the enjoyment of the better view!!! The city would have to be involved and that will also cost money for the city, but they would benefit from having a more tourist appealing town.

The argument from the city may be that they won't spend because they won't see the benefit, but they will. The better the views, the more tourism and property values increase and that translates into more tax revenues.

The end result of the expense would leave happier, healthier and more beautiful skylines and people. I love the views in Laguna, but I can see the potential, also. Oh, and there would be less power poles to run into!

Big city issues in our little Laguna

For those of you who live in a cave and didn't have knowledge of the "Anthrax scare" that engulfed Laguna on Friday the 30th of May, we aren't out of the limelight. Even though we are a "quaint, little, cute" town, we still have to worry about the real world. I would have never thought that hazmat squads and FBI agents would be taking over downtown to investigate and cordon off, but it happened.

So here we are in this wonderful little town surrounded by the "normal" world, which seems to want to either shoot, blow up or something to each other. I have spoken with a lot of people who like the fact they feel safe enough to have their doors unlocked...will that last? I hope so!!!

From the information that I have heard and read, the situation on that Friday was handled quickly and efficiently. That gives me confidence that we can be safe even if we are surrounded by the "terrors" of the normal world!

I hope we all can realize that we only hurt ourselves when we try to damage or hurt others...we're all in this together and I know that I only want to see people happy...all people!!!

So please join me in a big, collective hug, and let's see if we can all be nice. Try this...think of your goal in life as, making every person you meet happier then they were before you met!!!

Laguna Surf Contests

For those of you who have read and noticed that I have continued to mention the Big Thalia Surf contest to happen on that weekend or the next or next...we seem to be having some wave issues around here. I have seen, read and been told that this contest would happen without fail on the Memorial Day weekend and that the Brooks Street contest would also find a weekend to have it completed...every year.

Now we can't even get one set of waves. What's the world coming to! We can't live without surfing!!! The Brooks Street contest hasn't been held since 2005 and we are running the risk of having the Thalia contest drowned (pardon the pun). Well, once again they are waiting for the waves to come the Thalia this weekend.

Let's hope they do come and we don't have our hopes washed away with shin slappers! Please let the 8 to 10 foot waves with perfect form start making their wave to the beach right now!!!

Once again the weekend will be detailed in two posts due to meetings and the paper-person's habit of sleeping in! I hope everyone out there is wonderful, I just did a marathon drive to Vegas (to Vegas on Wednesday and back on Thursday) to spend a day with my wife who was already there for business. Aliso Canyon Redevelopment Plan

The Athens Group gave us the access and the tour, but I still feel skittish about this redevelopment plan.

Are we allowing them to alter nature? I'm split on that. I know there is non-indigenous plants in the creek, but if we remove the plants and "clean" the creek by clearing it out, will the animals return. The construction that will happen will change animals way of life and those that have gone (because of the state of the current creek) or that are still there, may not return if the area is unsafe and unusable for them for a few years!

I know that amelioration is important for the land, the economy and society, but are the costs too high. I am just not sure!

What should we do? What are your thoughts out there in cyber-land? Convince me one way or the other, because I don't feel like we have enough information yet!!!

Local School API scores released

Hello all. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I have been dealing with clients, who have children, and the topic of schooling almost always works it's way in. So I was glad to see the coverage that the news sources have given.

Now, the local schools scored in the top end of the state grading scale. Some were at the "9" level, which is considered nearly perfect and the majority received the "10" or perfect score. It was of interesting note that when compared to other "similar" schools, which they describe as student's ethnicity, socioeconomic status, average class size and number of credentialed teachers, to name some of the criteria, many of the same "perfect" or "nearly perfect" school received some of the lowest rating. I guess that makes them the "worst" of the "best"!

To give an example, I will compare the Laguna Beach High score with the Dana Hills High score. Dana Hills High was rated as a "10" in both the overall and comparative rankings and it's score was 825. Whereas, Laguna Beach High was rated as a "nearly perfect 9" in the overall, but a worst possible "1" rating in the comparative. Laguna Beach High's score was 811. If I were to look at the score comparison of 825 to 811, I wouldn't think that there was that much of a gap between those two schools. But that's just me. So, maybe it isn't a bad thing to be "nearly perfect" with a ranking of "9" and the worst of the best!!! If it is only about a 1.5% increase in test scores to be the "Best of the Best", it seems to me not only that much too worry about, but also, a extra few minutes of studying to reach the top!!!

Laguna Beach Real Estate

Hello everyone out there in cyber land. I hope and like to believe that many people are reading these posts religiously, but I can also face reality. I do know that people are looking at the site and some are reading, but I can't determine exactly how many and it doesn't seem like a lot due to insufficient comments.

Well, I have poured my soul out many times and will continue in the future, but I also want to be informative. I am researching news feeds to add to the site and since I am...hopefully you can judge me differently than others have from my employment title...a real estate agent, I do have some cool information that I can pass on periodically. I don't want this to become a marketing site, but I will distribute information...real estate news can be as important to some as current events. Now that is all I have to say about updating...other than...if anyone has particular information or topics that they would like to see tackled, please let me know.

Now on to the reasons that I began this post...I recently dealt with a person who lied to me and then, when I called their bluff, they told me that they were going to deal with someone else because...now get this...because the other person was more straight forward with them! I guess dishonest individuals respect those who bad-mouth others more than the nice guys. As a licensed real estate agent and a Realtor, I have an obligation to act with honesty, respect and openness. If I were to fail to do so or even exaggerate slightly, I could not only lose my license, but I could be sued, also. Now if we as real estate agents are held to such standards, is the general public allowed to lie with no regard for us!!!

For those who actually do read this, I hope you see that I don't hold back much and I have also been told that I am too honest. My wife actually told me that I scared her on our first date because I was so honest...oh well. Anywho, I have vented for the day. And just to let you know, the person who led me down this road is not from Laguna and isn't looking to move here, either! I have now decided to fire any client who is dishonest with me. They aren't worth my time!

Laguna Art and Beaches

Hello and happy back to work day! Sorry! From my hidden lair, I get my updates on Laguna Beach. Needless to say, I didn't get any really exciting, cool or heartbreaking developments relayed to me from the weekend.

The only things that were of importance/interest to me was the fact that the 18th annual beach report card was released by the environmental group Heal the Bay. Laguna received good grades, due in part to the low rainfall that limited the amount of polluted urban runoff to reach the ocean via storm drains. Secondly, the "Art-To-Go" kick-off reception was held at the Laguna Design Center on May 15th. I hope everyone went...I missed it...I was working!!! But rejoice, the works are on display through July 2 at City Hall during business hours. They are donated works by exhibitors of "The Festival of Arts" and the proceeds benefit the Artists Fund, which provides financial aid to artists who suffer from economic hardship due to illness, personal injury or natural disaster...but we all know that virtually all artists suffer economic hardships until they die and then everyone starts appreciating their works!!! Anywho, new pieces will be added regularly and they will go up for sale at Tivoli Lane on the Festival grounds beginning July 5th. Then on August 15th from 1 to 3pm any remaining pieces will be sold at a lively auction. The auctioneer will be Mike Tauber during the festival's jazz day.

Award Winning Laguna Beach Teacher

As I read the article about Steve Sogo, a Chemistry teacher at Laguna Beach High School, I think back to my days of schooling and wonder what fun it would have been to learn from experience the way he is teaching.

He was awarded one of the six 2008 Amgen Awards for Science Teaching Excellence that were given in California. Additionally only a couple dozen nationally will win this award. He earned the award by wondering away from the normal teaching curriculum to teach an Advanced Chemical Research class. The rare course allows students to conduct true scientific research! I did always dislike having my head in a book.

To think of all the fun I could've had accidentally blowing up the Chem Lab!!! I'm glad to say that it sounds like he has students that are better at chemistry than I was and we are lucky to have a teacher who thinks outside the box to create learning possibilities!!!

I would make a toast...to Steve Sogo...well done and I hope that when a child of mine is old enough to be there, they will have someone like you to keep them from blowing up the Chem Lab!

Life and Living it

I just finished reading an email sent to me by my mother. It has been forwarded around. I don't know if the story that I will include is true or not...I hope it was, but it's meaning is very true and fits wonderfully with all the ideas of enjoying what we have around us. The contents of the email are as follows:

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being. She said, 'Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?' I laughed and enthusiastically responded, 'Of course you may!' and she gave me a giant squeeze. 'Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?' I asked. She jokingly replied, 'I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids...'
'No seriously,' I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age. 'I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!' she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this 'time machine' as she shared her wisdom and experience with me. Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor.

Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, 'I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.' As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, ' We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it! There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets.' She concluded her speech by courageously singing 'The Rose.' She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.

When you finish reading this, please send this peaceful word of advice to your friends and family, they'll really enjoy it! These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE.
REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL. We make a Living by what we get. We make a Life by what we give.

Love, Lies and Ordinary Lives

We live somewhere, that is , at least I hope that we do. Where ever that place is we hope that we love that place. Sometimes we seem to forget that the place where we live is a wonderful awe inspiring place. Not only have we tamed the forces of nature (sometimes, that is), inhabited a wonderful continent, built communities and societies and small quaint area like our beautiful little corner of the world, Laguna Beach. We have many luxuries, natural and man-made.

Since beginning to post here, I have begun to look at this world we live in differently...as if from the outside looking in. I have learned to slow down and look at the all the wonders. I have a great life. My home is perfect for me. I am married to the woman of my dreams and have a lovable wiener dog named Lola! I love my friends and enjoy working with people every day. Prior to this I was one of those people that I see out the window honking at each other at the stop sign.

I wish that every person can do the same thing. The next best thing in my book is to try and spread the feeling. I'm in sales and I have come to see that we sales people seem to be looked down upon by those out of sales. I work extremely hard and only try to help those that want me to. But that isn't why I started writing this evening, so I will get back to waxing on Laguna.

I find myself down in Laguna at 5am and love to hear the silence that fills the air. The time spent with no one around allows for me to really appreciate the beauty that is all around us and we tend to overlook. We are running around and working so hard that our vision becomes tunnel like. My best friend has been dreaming of the perfect home and now that vision is flirting with becoming reality. I haven't heard the pleasure level that he has right now in a long time. He has described the home to me before, but now that it is so close, it takes a new clarity. That is the same type of feeling I have during those early mornings!

Those are the feelings and experiences that make life worth living! Someone asked me recently what I saw as my legacy. I immediately answered that I want to leave every person I meet happier then they were prior. This has always been a deeply rooted hope of mine, most probably since I am quite insecure. The love that I have found from slowing down and taking a new viewpoint on life over the past few weeks of these posts has allowed this true mission be envisioned.

So join me in stopping and watching the sunrises and sunsets that we have the pleasure of experiencing. Then we will walk around town and see all the wonderful shops. After that we will take some time to paint the next masterpiece. And finally, we will make sure all those in our lives how much they truly mean to us!

Beauty and the Beach

Hello from what seems like the hottest days, but at least it's not as hot as it is inland. The fog this morning allowed for the heat to stay away a little longer. It seems that summer has hit with a vengeance. I have had the pleasure of greeting many visitors to Laguna while holding open houses and we must have a great place here, considering we have a lot of people looking for vacation/weekend homes here. I have discussed the beauties of Laguna with many and also the wonders of the waters.

What I am trying to create here is a comprehensive story of life in Laguna. The good, the bad and the ugly as they say. We have beautiful sunsets and beaches, quaint areas and marketplaces, but there is always a flip side to the coin. I have always believed that with more honest information, even more people would come to appreciate what there is to offer. I know, from a marketing standpoint, you don't want to talk about the "less favorable" aspects of life here, but if you bring them out in the open then the beauty far outshines them.

Life in Laguna in different!

There are streets that remind me of some of my European travels...having a road too narrow for cars to pass...for example. Those European streets were created when the horse was the mode of travel, what excuse does the planners of Laguna have? I believe that is easily viewed as the narrow passes of a hillside road...we are nestled against the hills here, aren't we!
Traffic is never as bad as the 91 Freeway, but we do have some not so fun traffic, like Laguna Canyon Road in and out during "rush hour". We have this problem due to only a few entrances and exits to Laguna.
Now back to those roads, as I've noted before, they are quite confusing to the unsuspecting visitor. Wandering up into the hills requires a very good navigator or navigation unit or you could end up calling for "search and rescue" units.
If you can't handle the attitude or should we say "free spirited" ways of the artsy folks that abound throughout Laguna, then they could drive you crazy. First of all, take a deep breath and relax as you enter. Slow down and Chill!!!

Once you have "chilled", you can start to enjoy the wonders of Laguna.

The relaxed environment will seep into your heart as you enjoy walking around the shops in downtown.
There is always a beach to visit...especially if you are a diver or surfer...and a sunset to watch.
The events and restaurants to visits are vast and have a wide variety to choose from. Those include the Sawdust Festival and the Festival of the Arts...to name a few.

Due to time constraints, I am only listing some of "wonderful" things there are about Laguna, so I ask that those of you out there reading who are from Laguna, to please add your favorites or least favorite things about our lovely little town!

Laguna Weekend

We have made it through half of the weekend. The Saturday "scorcher" is done. I hope there aren't too many sunburns from yesterday!

After reading the post by Corinthia, I began to think about how we (the royal we...as in me, myself and I) tend to forget the wonders that are in our own backyard. Sometimes it takes a fresh set of eyes to remind us of it. I haven't spent the time that I would like to watching the sunsets, sitting in front of the waves as they crash on the rocks, strolling along the sand with nowhere in particular to go or of course jumping into the water and frolicking like a child. The childhood wonder of the beach is something that can keep us young and I know that I haven't taken advantage of it in a long time...too long!

While I sit working, I have my friends emailing me about doing a dive (SCUBA) and I haven't even had the time to service my gear. I have 4 or more friends who are instructors, so they seem to be in the water more than out of it. That seems to be a great way to have a reason to swim out and drop down. If you haven't seen the giant fish tank, which most people call the ocean, from within, you are missing one of the wonders of the world. I had always dreamed of going diving and watched the programs on the Discovery Channel, TLC and all the others, but once I went under the first time, I was hooked (pardon the fish pun, it wasn't on purpose). For anyone who has owned a fish tank and obviously fish, the thrill of being in the fish tank is unmatched. You feel worries melt away and become part of something much bigger.

Now, we in Laguna have some of the great local diving around. My friends from other cities make their plans to dive here! There are dive destinations, with their warm water (no wetsuits needed), but they require a large commitment of time and money. We have wonderful waters and sights that rival those and all we have to do is don a wetsuit...no big deal with the right one! Laguna Beach - Nature's Concupiscent Heaven

Have you ever sat at Shaw’s Cove with your eyes closed and let the cool sigh of the Goddess Pacifica breathe down your neck? Or have you seen the dance of the yellow mustard plants as they jitterbug together through the canyons behind Alta Laguna?

Living in Laguna Beach offers these delicacies from Mother Nature at our doorstep. Where else can you surf with the chattering dolphins at sunrise and then relax with an evening picnic in Laguna’s desert-like backcountry? There isn’t anywhere else like it.

The other day I took my mother visiting from rural Pennsylvania (I mean Amish rural!) down to the tide pools at Shaw’s cove. I observed her personality change from that of a 60 year old grown-up, down to a childlike 11 year old when she spotted some type of drifting sea creature dawdling its way down the cove. With no regard for her own safety, she barreled down the coastline armed with a camera in hopes of snapping a horrible, blurry picture of the creature to show her friends back home. In fact, she has collected several horrible, blurry pictures of Laguna’s wildlife. Her friends back in rural Pennsylvania must think even the animals out here live a fast-paced life!

If I could bottle up the wonderful day my mother had and sell it, I would make a fortune. On second though, I doubt Dior would market a perfume called ‘Crazy 60 Year Old Lady on Vacation’. I guess we should stick to the pictures.

Wandering through Laguna Beach (as seen through an office window)

Hello out there in cyber-land. I am sitting here in my office, which means that I get to look out the window and think. While doing that, I inevitably end up watching all the cars drive by and the people walk by. I seem to be seeing a trend out there on the roads.

People appear to be so focused on themselves that they don't acknowledge the world or other people around them. It seems to be a "me first" mentality. (As I wrote that last sentence, a car honked at another, because they didn't wait their turn at the stop sign) I think we can learn a lot about ourselves and others by how we interact at a busy intersection that has a 4-way stop. It has definitely made me change my outlook. I take more time and let others, who look like they're in a hurry, go first. It is sad to look at myself and see that I have and still do (a little less now then before) fall into the "stop sign" trap!
People aren't enjoying their travels! Let's face it, when was the last time you went out and wandered around aimlessly for no reason. And, guess what, going downtown to walk around and just look is more of a tourist thing, so that leaves us with a reason. The reason always seems to drive us! Why can't we drive and have the reason just be a result. I don't know how DEEP that was, but it made me think just now. This little community of ours needs some good vibes. So if we are all in a rush to reach the final destination, we can't enjoy the trip and share it with others.
I also wonder how many of the vehicles I see passing by are needed or for show. The Range Rover's, Viper's, Maserati's, Lamborghini's and so forth (please forgive me if I didn't name the luxury vehicle that you drive to show your status). I have one of those cars that could be in this class, but it was an employee, "I'd be stupid to pass up", deal on a Jaguar. My past life in the auto world. It's a great car to drive and enjoy, but I don't get to enjoy it enough, because I always have someplace to go!!!

Well, that's my philosophical wanders of the day. It may be that this was caused by the overcast weather, I don't know. I hope that this will lead one person to change their driving (as a Ferrari screams by) habits, styles and attitudes. I am thankful that we in Laguna have a more "relaxed and mellow" attitude that other areas, but I am still here in Laguna watching it all go by.

Hello all. Hope everyone out there has been doing well. I want to make sure anyone and everyone who cares about Laguna will take the time to go to Aliso Canyon for the open house that Athens Group has agreed to hold. It is on Saturday, May 10th from 2pm to 5pm. They are proposing developing and in essence re-engineering the Canyon. We have to make sure that we are all aware of their plans. We can't allow them to assume they can just develop without regard to the consiquencies. We are all proud of Laguna and if their plans will over-crowd, over-develop, over-burden, alter the environment or charm and feel of Laguna, we need to speak out against that. I don't know what their plans are...yet...but I will be there to take a look! I hope to see you all there. The wild waters of Laguna

Ok, who left the heater on? My, my, my, it sure warmed up today. Once again we had another beautiful day in paradise, but it's starting to get toasty!

The interesting happening of the day was the "pod of sharks" spotted off of Main Beach. They were the rare "bottle nosed dolphin sharks"! As a SCUBA diver, I would love to dive with some sharks, but dolphins would be cool, also. I'm assuming the person/people who reported seeing the "sharks" obviously don't know much about marine life. Otherwise, they would have been able to know the difference between some dolphins and some sharks. Anywho, it's still good to be nervous, they could have been a pod of dolphins with rabies and a taste for blood...human blood!!!

Back on the weather front, we still had that haze blocking our perfect view. I guess that way we're always left wanting more!

Another beautiful day in Laguna

The temperature has started to creep back up again, but who can complain when you have that wonderful ocean breeze to cool you. Other than the haze that blocked our view of the islands off the coast, we were pretty close to another perfect day in paradise! I was in South Laguna for the day and I always love to have a relaxing day down there! I would love to hear any one's stories from the day that just slipping through our hands. Anywho, I hope that the haze is gone for tomorrow (I haven't look at the weather forecast or trust it even if I did look), so we can look out toward the Pacific and marvel at it vanishing off in the distance. I didn't hear of any earth shattering events today (I guess it was a slow news day) so I will sign off on my end. If I did miss something, please punish me severly with a comment or something to that effect! Laguna Beaches all open after inspections

The testing is completed on the stretch of beaches that were closed after the sewage spill that occurred at Coast Highway and Diamond. The area of beaches were from Mountain to Ruby and were cleared by the Orange County Health Agency today. My friends in the SCUBA diving industry always take an interest in the water in Laguna. This area is one of the finest locations for SCUBA diving and if things like this happen, it can quickly discourage the tourism that can come from the industry. It is not widely enough know how good the diving is in Southern California and especially in our own backyard (literally, for a few of us). Woods Cove, Diver's Cove, Shaws Cove are just a few of the wonderful locations to jump in. I have been lucky to have my friends be instructors and experts on those local waters in Laguna. If you haven't had the privilege of visiting our little aquarium called the Ocean from under the water line, you should check it out. I would gladly refer you to some great instructors. Welcome to Laguna Beach

This first post won't be pretty or fall on the floor funny, but it will be from the heart. The times that I have spent in Laguna have been amazing and extraordinary. From spending time at Shaw's Cove SCUBA diving to walking through downtown, it allows a small beach community feel to creep into your soul. I love the tranquility that I gain every day...and sometimes the frustration that comes from the well planned and straight to your destination routes that you often take. By the way, if you're afraid of heights, don't stray too far from Coast Highway! Please come for the dining, the beaches, the weather, the shops and of course the sunsets, but look out you may find you won't want to leave. It may sneak into your soul and then you would gladly become "one of us"!!! I still feel (and probably always will) that I don't know this little beach town well enough to consider myself a local, but I will love this place always. No matter where I roam, I will take what I have learned and felt while in Laguna with me. Hopefully, that will make everywhere that I go a little brighter, quainter and happier. I look forward to giving more heartfelt information to everyone out there and my promise is to let everyone, who would like information about Laguna, learn something new every time they visit!
